Lamborghini is entering the world of non-fungible tokens an idea so far off the realm of possibility that it's hard to believe. They have teamed up with an unidentified artist to create the Space Key, a physical item that is connected to digital art through a QR code.

The non-fungible token (NFT) trend is sweeping the gaming world but even premium car makers are getting in on the action. Luxury car manufacturer Lamborghini has unveiled its very first NFT project - a set of five space-themed digital artworks that are connected to a physical object dubbed the Space Key. The tokens were created using a piece of carbon fiber composite material that was sent to the International Space Station in 2019 as part of a joint research project.
NFTs are unique digital identifiers which are stored on a distributed database, known as Blockchain. They can be linked to any digital object such as music or images. In addition to the space-themed artwork, Lamborghini is offering five Space Keys that will be sold via an auction. The NFTs are coupled with tangible items that have been in space, which will boost their worth as the popularity of NFTs continues to grow. Nike, Samsung and Reddit are already working with NFTs. Twitter has recently added the ability for users to display their favourite NFTs on their profile photos using hexa-shaped frames.
The Space Time Memory NFTs will be offered via an auction on the internet. As of now the cost of each NFT is a bit hazy. The brand promises to reveal more details in the coming weeks and days, including the name of the artist who created the Space Key and digital artwork as well as the auction house and the date and time of the auction.

The first auction of the artwork that is space-themed will be held on February 1st, the start of the Lunar New Year, and it will last for 75 hours and 50 minutes - the same amount of time it took for Apollo 11 to leave Earth and enter the moon's orbit. Details on the auction and the artwork will be announced in the coming weeks. The artwork is an exploded image constructed from thousands of photographs of the Aventador.
